SERVICES OFFERED BY NKEC :
DESIGN SPECIFICATION
In liaison with our customers, we write a detailed Product Design Specification Document (DSD). This document, once approved by the customer, is used to fully describe what is required for a specific design project. The DSD defines the parameters within which our design engineers will work, and measure our success / deliverables. The DSD can be modified, by either party as the project progresses with concurrence of both parties. Our engineers are skilled at generating DSD necessary to ensure a successful project.
PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
Once a concept has been finalised, our team can then develop the product into a final working design. There are several activities required within the product development stage, i.e.

  • We will first fully detail the 3D CAD model, ensuring all components and features are designed such that they can me manufactured.
  • Next use these CAD models to analyse strength, weight, heat transfer etc, dependent upon the design specifications.
  • Re-designing if required can be completed before producing prototypes for aesthetic, functional evaluation or physical testing.

MECHANICAL DESIGN
Our mechanical design team is highly adaptable and innovative. We utilize knowledge gained from previous assignments in different industries and introduce these techniques in new relationships. Our mechanical design engineers have successfully developed numerous bespoke designs from challenging briefs and specifications and have vast experience on technology deployment. CAD SERVICES
Our design engineers predominantly work with Autodesk Inventor, Pro Engineer / Creo and Solid Works which allows us to produce both 3D and 2D CAD data. Our finished ‘Product’ is the supply of accurate, fully dimensioned and GD&T 2D drawings with all necessary manufacturing information for our customers to use for production. While designing a new product, we will produce 3D models for concept evaluation, Finite Element Analysis, CFD analysis and prototype creation.  Using this 3D CAD data, parts can be easily CNC machined, or tooling manufactured. We also undertake to provide 3D models from customers existing 2D data, and can supply these files in any format of customer’s preference..

CAD VISUALIZATION & CONCEPT DESIGN
Our design engineers are from various disciplines, adept at generating concept designs from a customer’s brief in 2D sketch form using multiple 3D CAD visualization tools. Whether we receive detailed design specification, or just the idea, we can transform this into several different concepts for further evaluation through brainstorming sessions. Concept designs normally involve 2D and 3D CAD visualizations, sketches and prototype models in order to refine concepts and communicate ideas to our customer.

From the outset we understand the customer’s requirements and establish a staged process, starting from a well designed product to a well developed product with in the given manufacturing specification, i.e. a product that can actually be made efficiently, bringing production savings and increasing returns on your investment.

The concepts can be modeled in 3D CAD for easier understanding, to validate initial ideas or evaluate aesthetic qualities. Based on detailed discussion and extensive knowledge of engineering design, our team will quickly arrive at a final concept that both fulfils the original design brief and is practical to manufacture economically.

We use cutting edge virtual prototyping tools to visualize concepts, create high quality graphical presentations and produce physical appearance models allowing our customers to test markets, gain funding or generate IP. We can demo your product in photomontage context, diagrammatic formats or 2D drawings for communication of concept.
PLASTIC MOULDING DESIGN
Our team takes into account, a component’s material, its tooling requirements, its draft and minimal side coring while designing mouldings with correct wall/rib thickness, giving due consideration to subsequent secondary moulding or assembly operations so that development times are minimized. From the early stages of a products development, we develop the product to suit the most cost effective manufacturing technique. Our team has world class plastics & moulding expertise to ensure that our designs are robust and fit for purpose.

Our 3D designs and high quality 2D detail drawings, enable toolmakers and manufacturers to produce accurate, high quality components at all stages of a product’s life cycle.

SHEET METAL COMPONENT & FABRICATION
Our designers take advantage of the latest sheet metal manufacturing techniques and processes to create 3D sheet metal components and then produce 2D profiles for the creation of blanks with fold lines and development notes. Our detail drawings are optimized to reduce unnecessary dimensioning with all key features specified. Customers save time and money by utilizing our rapid design techniques to combine them with laser, plasma or water jet cutting to improve accuracy and efficiency of their products.

Our detail drawings specify materials, weld details, tolerances and finishes to ensure high quality products, consistently delivered on time and with cost-effective processes.

DESIGN OPTIMIZATION
The aim of design optimization is to prepare the prototype design for full scale manufacture. This often includes design changes to suit processes that cannot be replicated by Rapid Prototyping machines or suit tooling requirements. After prototyping, we review the design and test results to improve the design and optimize the process by reducing parts counts , material , fasteners or secondary processes.
VALUE ENGINEERING
Our designers ensure that products being designed are value engineered. Ensuring that the design is optimized for the chosen manufacturing process, correct material is utilized, and the minimum amount of waste is generated. Using FEA tools we can ensure the weight of a component is minimized whilst maintaining its strength. For an injection moulded component, the design ensures lowest tooling cost, and least amount of plastic wastage.
REVERSE ENGINEERING
Whenever original data is unavailable, Our designers strip products down, inspect, measure every component , model it in 3D. All assembly parts are checked thoroughly to verify the fit and materials. We will define a new part number methodology, assign Drawing numbers to every new part and assembly, 2D drawings are generated keeping machining production sequence in mind, including surface finishes, machining process, detailed material specification, sections, tolerances, ejector, location pins and fixing holes. Our team can generate a full set of manufacturing drawings not only for the product but also its tooling.

We also undertake to transform actual parts or historic data into current formats both in 2D and 3D.
ENGAGEMENT TRANSITION
Nature of Work willing to take on for customers :

  • Start an engagement with Detailing of simple parts or Assemblies
  • Models or close reference drawing from customer used to place proper projection views, copy notes, special instructions, dimensional schemes, symbols etc)
  • Creating finished product assemblies
  • ECN’s (Current and Legacy)
  • Developing Tools or templates to reduce the overall time in creating models for standard parts.
  • Assume complete responsibility on QC and dimension checks, be signatory on drawings
  • Support New Product development activities
